One out of five people is unable to read above the 5th grade level.

Who are these people? They could be --

The Literacy Volunteers of Putnam County offers FREE one-on-one tutoring and small group sessions for anyone who needs help in basic reading, writing and math skills.

Our volunteers are trained tutors from our community. They take the time and make the effort to help those who want to improve their basic academic skills.

We incorporate different strategies, from phonics-based instruction to whole-language learning in context.

English is a second language for many of our students who are new to our area. We help improve conversational English and cultural adjustments as needed.

We always welcome new students, no matter who they are or where they are from.

We estimate that it costs $250 per year for each individual we put through the program. Upon completion they are more prepared for the workforce and everyday life.

You can invest in the future of our community by supporting our efforts.
