Putnam County Resident Wins Prudential CARES Volunteer Grants Award

NEWARK, N. J. (July 22, 2005) -- Wilda Harmon of Hurricane W. Va., a Prudential Insurance agent received a Prudential CARES Volunteer Grants Award of $250 for the Literacy Volunteers of Putnam County, Inc. Harmon served as an "English As a Second Language" tutor for a Japanese student. She worked with the student and her children to teach them how to read and write the English language. Harmon volunteered more than 70 hours in 2004. The Literacy Volunteers of Putnam County promotes increased literacy foradult learners in Putnam County through the effective use of volunteers, the provision of support services for volunteers and learners and collaboration with individuals, groups or organizations desiring to foster increased literacy.
The Prudential CARES Volunteer Grants Program, formerly known as the Community Champions Awards Program, recognizes Prudential Financial active and retired associates and agents/affiliates who volunteer in their community. Award monies are provided to organizations for which the winners serve as volunteers. Winners receive honorary award certificates.
