Buffalo High Showtime Choir performs for adult literacy students and tutors.

The Literacy Volunteers of Putnam received a double treat this evening in a concert by the Showtime Choir of Buffalo High School followed by blue ribbon tales of Appalachian home life and nostalgia by Susan Waples.

Waples is the National Storytelling Champion for 1998.

Showtime, under the direction of Mark Hopkins, provided a medley of traditional Christmas music.

Several of the songs were presented in special arrangements for the occasion.

The literacy students and tutors were invited to join with Showtime in singing "Silent Night."

The organization also receivd a gift of 250 student dictionaries from the Rotary Club of Putnam County. The books will be distributed to every student in the adult learning program at Putnam Career and Technical Center, and for others in the literacy program.

Several Rotarians serve on the Board of Directors for Literacy Volunteers.
